who we are

Based out of Marquette, MI, Adam Carpenter & The Upper Hand is an “original frostbitten country” band from the rugged shores of Lake Superior.

ACUH is an alloy of country, blues, bluegrass, and rock sounds. Dynamic and changing, just like the seasons we get here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Everyone involved loves spending what free time they have exploring the endless pines and waters of the places we choose to call "home". Fishing, hiking, hunting, camping, biking, and most importantly, making the music that takes us down our favorite two-track or moving waters. If it takes place underneath our dramatic Michigan sky, we are all about it!

NEW ALBUM ALERT!!

AVAILABLE NOW!

This is a Michigan made project.  There are 12 tracks in total, all written or co-written by Carpenter. The album order has intent, taking the listener on a journey of sonic and lyrical emotions from heartbreak, to resolve, odes, a countrypolitan waltz and even a mythical legend. All evoked by the fiddle, banjo, dobro, a heavy dose of bluegrass rhythm guitar, sprinkled with some electric baritone and textured with the B-3 howling in the pocket and steeped in vocal harmonies.
